An accident in Montgomery County ended in tragedy and likely confusion for a small child. According to KHOU.com, a man was killed and a woman seriously injured near Conroe. Following the crash, police found a child believed to be between 3 and 4 years of age wandering around. It’s believed he was thrown from the vehicle on impact.

Caney Creek Fire Department responded and found the car overturned in a ditch off of Old Houston Road. A woman was lying outside of the vehicle and a man was trapped inside. The child was found nearby.

The man inside the vehicle died at the scene; the woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Somehow the toddler escaped with only scrapes and bruises.

It was a single-vehicle accident. Officials say they believe the driver may have lost control. A long skid mark on the pavement suggests the brakes were applied before the vehicle left the roadway. The car hit a culvert and flipped before coming to rest.

When an accident like this happens and no one is able to tell officials what happened, they have to piece together the accident themselves. Perhaps, however, the roads were slick, the driver was distracted, or he may have swerved to miss something in the road. For now, it’s anyone’s guess.

Single-vehicle accidents are not as common as those involving multiple vehicles. And they often aren’t as easy to sort out.

If you are a passenger in a single-vehicle accident and you sustain injuries as a result, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries from the driver and his or her insurance company. While some people are apprehensive about taking a claim out against a friend or family member, this is precisely why we carry insurance.
