freak-accident-kills-man-at-gas-station-imageWe all know there are risks on the roads. We put ourselves in harm’s way every time we get behind the wheel of a car. But, car accidents aren’t the only way to get injured out there. Some accidents come out of nowhere, with no warning, and with no chance at prevention.

One couple experienced firsthand how a “freak accident” can change everything in the blink of an eye.

According to KVUE.com, the couple had been driving when they stopped at a gas station to put air in one of their tires. As the woman waited in the car, her husband began pumping air. It was then that she heard screeching and then felt the impact of a crash.

A car had left the roadway and come into the Shell gas station parking lot. It hit her vehicle, killing her husband and knocking her unconscious. She could see her husband but couldn’t reach out to him. He apparently died before emergency responders even got to the scene.

This particular accident was caused by a teenage driver behind the wheel of a pickup truck. The teen lost control and left the Highway 59 service road before crashing into the couple.

There was no way for the victims to see this accident coming. There was nothing they could have done to prevent it. In this case, and many others like it, they were victims in the truest sense of the word.

While we always think about how to reduce our risk of harm, there are certain things we just can’t prepare for. We can follow all of the rules of the road. We can wear our seatbelts in cars or wear our helmets on a motorcycle. We can avoid distractions, never drink and drive, and even stay home when it’s raining or foggy. But even then, we could become victims of a tragic accident.

When tragedy like this strikes and you or a loved one is injured or killed due to the actions of another, life can change in an instant. Fortunately, the at-fault person(s) can often be held responsible for their actions.
