Houston-Company-Involved-in-A&M-Construction-Accident-ImageAccidents happen to everyone. But when the accident happens at work and particularly when your work involves construction, it can result in serious injuries or even death. Such an accident happened recently on a project for Texas A&M University near College Station.

The construction site was on a new University equestrian complex being built near the main A&M campus. The $80 million facility collapsed, sending four construction workers to the hospital.

According to the Associated Press, emergency responders from College Station, Bryan, and the University all responded to the barn frame collapse on Saturday, June 22. Emergency responders had to stop the rescue efforts for a while because of concerns the barn would collapse further.

“After that time, search and rescue efforts were suspended until the remainder of the structure that was still standing could be stabilized,” according to the College Station Fire Department. “After the structure was secured, a secondary search of the area was conducted to ensure that all patients had been located.”

In all, four people were transported to area hospitals. The nature of their injuries and their conditions is unknown. Considering the scope of the construction project, it’s fortunate only four people were hurt.

The contractor on the site is Gamma Construction Company, with offices in San Antonio and Houston. Gamma Construction did not provide a statement on the building collapse to media outlets following the accident.

Investigations to determine why the building collapsed are ongoing. Such structural accidents are often due to poor planning or execution of design plans.
