You may be the safest driver you know—careful to abide by all of the rules of the road in an effort to reduce your risk of getting a ticket or getting in an accident. But even when you are extra careful, other people may not be so cautious and could catch you off guard. Such may have been the case for two vehicles involved in a serious accident recently when a woman ran a red light.
According to KHOU.com, the accident happened on Bammel North Houston Road at the intersection of the North Sam Houston Parkway West service road. Two vehicles, a Silverado pickup truck and a Hyundai Genesis, took off from the intersection when their light turned green. A woman driving a Mitsubishi Mirage, coming from the eastbound lanes of the cross street, failed to stop at her red light, causing the accident.
The pickup truck hit the Mirage on the driver’s side, causing both vehicles to spin around. Then, another vehicle came upon the accident and was unable to stop in time before hitting the rear of the Mirage as it was spinning.
One person was killed and two people were seriously injured. The driver of the Mirage was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, a passenger, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition. The driver of the pickup truck, a 17-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
Fatal accidents are tragic, but even when the at-fault driver is killed in the accident, those injured by his or her actions may still be eligible for compensation.
Such accidents result in many costs—from the emergency room visit to the long-term physical therapy. As you recover from a serious car accident, the bills can pile up. And when the accident wasn’t your fault, these costs can seem to add insult to injury.
Fortunately, you have options. A personal injury attorney may be able to help you obtain compensation for your injuries and those related costs. In Houston, that attorney could be Kevin Krist.
