But, while city buses are designed to withstand considerable impact, injuries do occur. Such was the case in a recent Metro bus accident, where passengers in the bus and the car it collided with were all taken to local hospitals.

According to KHOU, the accident happened on Almeda Genoa near the Gulf Freeway. It was just after lunchtime when the bus collided with a black car. Witnesses say the car either cut in front of the bus or was traveling in front of the bus when it was hit from behind.

The initial impact between the car and the bus set off a chain reaction. The black car hit a green car after being struck by the bus. The green car then hit a parked truck. No one in the green car or the truck was injured.

A Houston police officer said there was a young child in the backseat of the black car. The child and two adult male passengers were transported to the hospital. On the bus, another four people were injured.

Witnesses said they saw passengers being unloaded from the bus on stretchers. Those four Metro passengers were transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. All complained of neck and back pain.

Metro buses carry thousands of people to and from work and throughout the city every single day. In most cases, these trips occur without disruption.

Buses are designed with your safety in mind. They are created to withstand impact and to prevent serious injury when an accident happens. But they can’t prevent all injuries.

Occasionally, accidents happen, causing injury.

When an accident is caused by the carelessness or negligence of a driver, whether a bus driver or the driver of another vehicle, the at-fault driver must be held accountable.
