Pasadena Medical and Legal Resources
Pasadena is the second-largest city in Harris County, with a population of 149,043, according to the 2101 census. Pasadena’s economy is energized by oil and gas exploration, production and refining; petrochemical processing; maritime shipping; aerospace and healthcare. The Bayport Industrial District in Pasadena is home to more than 70 chemical plants and is one of the largest private industrial complexes in the United States. In the summer of 2012, Pasadena was anticipating the completion of NA Industries Inc.’s $100 million plant built in Bayport to produce superabsorbent polymers (SAPs). The new plant is next to a plant owned by American Acryl NA LLC, a chemicals manufacturer that has its headquarters in Pasadena.
The nearby Houston Ship Channel and the Bayport shipping terminal employ many from Pasadena. The Ship Channel has numerous terminals and berthing locations on Buffalo Bayou and Galveston Bay. Major public terminals include Turning Basin, Barbours Cut and Bayport. The many private docks include the ExxonMobil Baytown Complex and the Deer Park Complex.
Heavy industry brings its own costs, especially when companies place profit margin above employee safety. Natural gas and oil field accidents, oil refinery fires, pipeline explosions, toxic chemical releases and exposure, oil spills, petrochemical plant explosions, and heavy equipment and transportation accidents occur frequently. The Houston Ship Channel and its many shipping terminals and berthing locations see numerous cargo ship accidents and other maritime accidents.
